What Flashing Materials Are Recommended for Use With Halo Exterra?

Below are the six flashing materials that are recommended for use with Halo Exterra:

  • 3M Ultra Conformable Flashing Tape 3015UC
  • Henry FortiFlex Butyl with Aquatac Primer
  • Resisto All-weather Butyl Flashing Tape
  • Dorken Delta-Flashing
  • Dorken Delta-LFS
  • FastFlash by Prosoco

Now, we’ll take a look at each one of these flashing materials in greater depth and see how they can help you flash the interface between Exterra and windows and doors.

3M Ultra Conformable Flashing Tape 3015UC

The 3M 3015UC flashing tape is approved for use with Exterra, and offers an impressive bonding strength of 130 N/100mm (7.3lb/inch) thanks to its high-performance acrylic adhesive. This flashing tape is non-permeable, so it won’t allow moisture ingress. The tape is also UV-resistant, so it won’t degrade if left out in the sun (although you should take steps to protect Exterra itself from the damaging UV rays).

Henry FortiFlex Butyl with Aquatac Primer

This flashing membrane is approved for use with Halo Exterra, as long as you install it over Aquatac Primer. The Henry FortiFlex Butyl membrane self-seals perfectly around nails, fasteners, and interfaces between Exterra and door and window assemblies. The Aquatac Primer is a low-VOC, water-based polymer emulsion primer specifically designed for self-adhesive membranes. Once you apply the primer, it dries quickly and lets you proceed with the membrane application.

Resisto All-weather Butyl Flashing Tape

Resisto All-weather Butyl Flashing Tape

This rubberized Butyl flashing tape from Resisto is approved for use with Halo’s Exterra. The tape prevents air and moisture from making their way through, and can be installed without a primer. Note that it takes anywhere between 12 and 24 hours after application for this flashing tape to reach its full adhesive strength.

Dorken DELTA®-FLASHING

Dorken DELTA®-FLASHING is a strong self-adhering flashing tape that’s approved for use with Exterra. This tape has a butyl-based adhesive that creates an air- and water-resistive seal, which makes it a good choice for flashing the joints between Exterra and door and window assemblies. DELTA®-FLASHING is also puncture resistant.

Dorken Delta-LFS

Dorken Delta-LFS

Dorken DELTA®-LFS is a liquid-applied flashing material that’s also approved for use with Halo’s Exterra. This liquid flashing is 100% silicone-based, UV-resistant, and provides an air- and water-resistive barrier once cured.

FastFlash® by Prosoco

Prosoco’s FastFlash® is a single-component, Silyl-Terminated-Polymer adhesive compound that’s approved as a flashing material for Halo Exterra. FastFlash® cures within a day to provide a seamless, robust air- and water-proofing flashing membrane at the interface between Exterra and doors and windows.
